Closing School at Noon to Root for the Expos

STORY BY: Joanne Brady Merola
YEAR: 1981
LOCATION: Montreal, QC

Joanne tells a story about growing up as a teen in Montreal, when she and her siblings and cousins would go to every Expos game. They would sit in the bleachers, as tickets only cost $1! In 1981, when the Expos had their one and only post-season series against the L.A. Dodgers (search for "Blue Monday"), the school principal she was working with dismissed the school at noon so that students could go to the Olympic Stadium to root for the Expos. Thanks for sharing, Joanne.
