My West German Father Assaulted by East German Border Guards

STORY BY: Brigitte Lavey
YEAR: 1950
LOCATION: West Germany

Brigitte was born in West Germany, and her father fought in World War Two. After the war, Germany was divided in two, and her father had business in East Germany. On his way to Berlin, his car was stopped, and he was asked for his age and identification papers. He was then verbally assualted for having fought in the war. When he returned to his car, someone had torn open the seats. He left his car, flew home, and decided never to return to Berlin again - even after German unification in 1990. Thanks for sharing, Brigitte.
