WW2 Vets: Men had to “Contain”, Women had to “Conform”
STORY BY: Donna Cessna
YEAR: 1948
LOCATION: Saskatoon, SK
Donna’s parents were both returning World War 2 veterans. Her father worked as an information wireless officer on a Corvette for five years with the Navy. Her mother was in the women’s division of the RCAF, and though she never spoke about the war, Donna thinks she worked in deciphering and recordings. Donna feels that there’s been a lot of discussion about men returning from the war, but little about women. Men had to “contain”, and women had to “conform”, even the ones who served overseas. Thanks for sharing, Donna.
