Mother’s Prague Spring, My Velvet Revolution

STORY BY:
YEAR: 0
LOCATION:

Daniela shares a story from Prague in Europe. On August 21st, 1968, her mother celebrated her 13th birthday by camping with friends and family. They heard jets flying over from Poland, and Czechoslovakia was suddenly occupied by the USSR, crushing the “Prague Spring”. For 22 years, they were not allowed to travel, “and their dreams were crushed”. On Daniela’s 13th birthday, many years later, she remembers her mother falling to her knees in thanks, because there was a Velvet Revolution, the government surrendered, and the Soviet occupation was over. Thanks for sharing, Daniela.
