Hitchhiking was a Form of Rebelling

STORY BY: Gaye Q
YEAR: 1970
LOCATION: Europe

Gaye shares a story of her experiences when she was 19 and 20. In 1970, she hitchhiked 5000 miles across Europe with her identical twin sister and her friend. To her, “hitchhiking was part of rebelling and getting in touch with the world”, and experiencing the kind of freedom that her post-war parents probably would never have felt. Girls were risking things in the early 1970s that no one would have dreamt of doing in prior generations. Thanks for sharing, Gaye.
