From Canada to Fort Knox and back
STORY BY: Zora Q
YEAR: 1966
LOCATION: Fort Knox, Kentucky
In 1966, Zora’s husband was selected to be an officer at Fort Knox. Despite her Master's in Social Work, Zora couldn't get a green card to work in the US so she volunteered at the international hospital with evacuees from Vietnam. With all their wounds, many were depressed. Trying to be hopeful, Zora asked one young person, "What are you going to do when you leave here?" He replied, "I'm going north to Canada so I can be isolated and alone. “ From Canada herself, she explained that indeed there are remote lakes but also populous areas like cities. The next day, she brought some brochures and wished him well. Thanks for sharing, Zora.
