My Interesting Cultural Ancestry
STORY BY: Erich Roesler-Yue
YEAR: 1980
LOCATION: East Berlin, Germany
Erich's father was born in East Berlin, and grew up behind the Wall. His mother, Elona, married a Canadian who was studying in Berlin at the time, and they eventually moved to Vancouver. So Erich's father found himself in a new country, a 6-year old immigrant who spoke only German. Eventually, Elona married a Chinese man, adding even more diversity to Erich's cultural heritage. Thanks for sharing, Erich.
