What To Do In Case of Apocalypse

STORY BY: Lorraine Iverach
YEAR: 1962
LOCATION: Winnipeg, MB

Lorraine remembers how naive baby boomers were in the 1960s, especially around nuclear war. At the time of the Bay of Pigs Invasion in 1962, her class received different instructions depending on how far they lived from the school. In the case of a nuclear attack, those who lived within 1/4 mile would be sent home, and those who didn't would stay at school. She remembers looking around her classroom and wondering: "should the Apocalypse happen, which of my friends… would die with their family, which ones would die with their teachers?" Thanks for sharing, Lorraine.
