A History Buff Visits Little Rock CHS and the Lorraine Motel
STORY BY: Danielle Carriere
YEAR: 2012
LOCATION: Memphis, Tennessee and Little Rock, Arkansas, USA
In 2009, Danielle was on a road trip to Nashville, Tennessee. Being a history buff, she decided to take side trips to Memphis, TN and Little Rock, Arkansas. She was very impressed with Little Rock Central High School, where 9 African American students were famously denied entry in 1957 (Little Rock Crisis). In Memphis, she visited the Civil Rights Museum, and noticed that it was built around the Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968. She was transported back 50 years, as the motel is preserved to look exactly as it was on that fateful April 4th morning. Thanks for sharing, Danielle.
