Peace Marches and Mini Skirts

STORY BY: Jane Keeler
YEAR: 1968
LOCATION: Warren, Ohio, USA

Jane came to Canada in 1969 after "trying to teach" school in New York state, where her students were only a bit younger but much more sophisticated. She had been in trouble for going on peace marches in New York City and wearing mini skirts to school. She was grateful to come to Canada because she opposed the war and some of her friends went to Vietnam. After Kent State happened, and her dad said, "They shoulda shot 'em all" – meaning young people just like Jane – she was glad to leave. Thanks for sharing, Jane.
