In 1957, Dennis remembers reading Nevil Shute's post-apocalyptic novel "On The Beach" in school in Melbourne, Australia, and later seeing the movie. In 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was sitting around his University professor's table, listening to the radio and expecting nuclear war to break out at any moment.
