Memories of a Jewish Anglophone in TMR

STORY BY: Barry Lazar
YEAR: 1960
LOCATION: TMR, Montreal, QC

Barry lived in TMR (Ville Mont-Royal, Montreal), and after the recent death of his father, his family is now selling the house that they grew up in. He remembers going to the fireworks on Victoria Day, which was "a distinctly anglo holiday in a distinctly anglo community". Jewish families like his moved to TMR because there was a synagogue in the town. He also remembers a golf course stretching from Jean-Talon to the Metropolitan, where Rockland Shopping Centre now sits. Barry lived near the third hole, where his father sometimes played golf, and his friends would go rabbit hunting. Thanks for sharing, Barry.
