Night Trains to Prison Camps in Canada

STORY BY: Jean Rosenthal Goldberg
YEAR: 1944
LOCATION: Timmins, ON

Jean recalls growing up in Timmins, Ontario. Her mother often brought her and her brother to Montreal every year to see family by train, a 24 hour ride. The train ride seemed mysterious to her at the time, with closed blinds and people moving about the train discreetly at night. Only later did she find out that German prisoners on the train were being transported to a prison camp in Ontario. Thanks for sharing, Jean.
