How Polio Changed the Neighborhood

STORY BY: Bill Barker
YEAR: 1955
LOCATION: Vancouver, BC

Bill and his brother were born in 1947, and remembers the impact of polio on his own family and the 13 families in his neighbourhood. One of his most vivid memories is pulling his friend to school in a wagon, because he had been struck by polio. He also remembers delivering newspapers with his brother, still pulling the boy in the wagon. A father in the neighbourhood was also struck with polio, and Bill will never forget the impact it had on that man's family. Thanks for sharing, Bill.
