Street Youth Worker Snubbed in Yorkville by her Ad-man Husband

STORY BY: Marnie Marley
YEAR: 1967
LOCATION: Yorkville, Toronto, ON

Marnie worked as a street youth worker in Yorkville (Toronto, ON) in 1967. The kids had all kinds of alcohol and drug problems, and many of them were from established families. Her favourite story is about her husband, who worked in an advertising agency at the time. One time, when Marnie was sitting on the street with some of the kids she was helping, her husband walked right by her, ignoring her completely. He thought it wasn't appropriate for an ad agency employee to have his wife sitting on a street in Yorkville. Thanks for sharing, Marnie.
