Billeting Janis Joplin and her Band

STORY BY: Adrienne Brown
YEAR: 1967
LOCATION: Vancouver, BC

Adrienne's parents were "Beatniks", and grew up in Vancouver's 1950s-60s counterculture. In 1967, one of their friends hears about Janis Joplin and her band 'Big Brother and the Holding Company' being billeted in a place on Seymour Street. Apparently, it wasn't great, so this friend invites Janis and band to her own place in West Van for a night. They stay for a whole week, and everyone gets along really well. This friend is 93 today, and still exchanges Christmas cards with some of the band in California. Thanks for sharing, Adrienne.
