Gas Masks and Air Raid Drills at School
In 1953, Judy was 9 years old, in a school in Burnaby, BC, where they still had ink wells on each desk. They also had a set of gas masks in her class, and they had to learn how to put them on: straps, goggles, mouthpiece, and all. It was hard to breathe, and very worrisome, as she wondered what would happen at home, where they didn't have gas masks. Other worrisome things she remembers are pulling down the blinds because they couldn't have any lights on, and the air raid sirens. Thanks for sharing, Judy.
