A Teen in Yorkville

STORY BY: Pearl Akers
YEAR: 1964
LOCATION: Yorkville (Toronto, ON)

In 1964, Pearl moved from Cape Breton, NS to Yorkville in Toronto, Canada's hub for the hippie movement. At 3 or 4 in the morning, there were flower children partying, Sylvia and Ian singing, and the "Hare Krishna guys going around in their yellow robes." She also remembers the idealism that teenagers were feeling at the time - a sense that everything was possible, and they could change the world. "It was a grand time... and a great generation to be a part of". Thanks for sharing, Pearl.
