Draft Dodger Tenants + Tea with Castro
Robert tells us two stories about his family, who immigrated from Taiwan to Halifax in the mid 60s. His father, a businessman, divided up their house into several apartments. One of Robert's earliest memories is of a long-haired hippie couple - a draft dodger and his girlfriend - who were tenants. Robert then tells a story about his mother, who is now in her 70s, and still lives in that same house. While on a trip to Cuba with a sociologist friend, she managed to have tea with President Fidel Castro. His mother said, "he's a really nice guy once he takes the guns off". Thanks for sharing, Robert.
