Draft Dodger Artists

STORY BY: David Jones
YEAR: 1972
LOCATION: Toronto

In the early 70s, David was affiliated with a group of draft dodgers who were artists. They set up a coffee house on King St East, decorated it with cushions, and called it the "Soft Cell". It was a place for poets, folksingers, etc. David and his wife were not artists, but they would collect the $0.50 entry fee. It was during one of those poetry readings that David gave up his doctorate in biology to take up a career in librarianship. Thanks for sharing, David.
