The Beatles in Vancouver

STORY BY: Noel Cairney
YEAR: 1964
LOCATION: Vancouver,, BC

Noel talks about teaching at a special school in 1964, when special needs children were not integrated into the regular classroom. One of her students, aged 14, had severe cerebral palsy and had to be pushed in a wheelchair. The Beatles were coming to Vancouver, and this student "desired beyond all imagination" to see the concert. Her parents thought it was a crazy, but her 'crazy teacher' Noel took her anyway. Noel's husband drove them to the PNE, and he patiently waited outside. They couldn't see or hear anything, but it was the greatest experience of the student's life, and Noel will never forget it. Thanks for sharing, Noel.
