A Nazi in Cochrane, ON

STORY BY: Claude de Blois
YEAR: 1989
LOCATION: Berlin

Claude tells us how his father was injured on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day in WW2, inspiring a life-long fear of Germany in his son. He then conquered that fear on a visit to Berlin at the height of Glasnost in 1989. An amazing conversation occurred in a cafe with a former Nazi soldier who had been sent to a prisoner of war camp in Cochrane, Ontario - the small town where Claude had grown up! Thanks for sharing, Claude.
