Cuban Missile Crisis
STORY BY: Colleen Chapman
YEAR: 1962
LOCATION: Dayton, Ohio
Colleen remembers growing up near Wright Patterson airport in Dayton, Ohio. At the beginning of the Cuban Missile Crisis (October 1962), the B52 bombers were flying low overhead. Colleen's mother was standing at the window, saying how it was just like the beginning of World War 2. She lived in fear and anguish all the way to 1969, when something snapped inside of her. She had already been to Canada and knew of "a better world", and she decided she would never be frightened like that again. Thanks for sharing, Colleen.
